Like yesterday, we would see nothing for a long time and then see many of them at once, for instance zebra bathing. Some brave ones would walk into the water, followed by a few others, while the rest of the group observed. The slightest things would scare the off and have them run out of the water back to the group, after which the same ritual would be repeated. We also passed rock formations that are common in Serengeti and were the inspiration for the opening scene of the Lion King, as lions could often be found there, but we did not see them.
At some point nature was calling for some the people in our group again. As there was no possibility to even go out of the truck into the bushes, the solution was ONE big plastic container that had contained cookies before. The truck was asked to stop and the people were given some time alone with the container in the back of the truck (one at a time, with yes, that one plastic container). I was sooo happy that nature was not forcing me to cross that personal boundary as well during this trip.
On our way back to the camp for our brunch we passed a tree where we saw a leopard relaxing on a branch, exactly like you see in the pictures, the only thing was that its face was facing the other direction, but nevertheless it was awesome. And then it started to move and raise itself a bit and we all held our breath to see what would happen … and then it just lay back down. But this time facing us. This happened a couple of times, each time resulting in a different pose. This is what we missed last year, but now it was perfect.
During the hottest part of the day we ate a bit and tried not to move too much in the shade, same thing most of the animals were pretty much doing. Although, some of us that wandered off into the high grass surrounding the campsite were called back quickly, as you never know what scary thing might change its mind and decide for an early (and easy) diner. Towards the end of the afternoon we went to the visitors center, followed by another game drive. Plenty of nothing, plenty of animals, no lions and another leopard in a tree although this one was by far not as photogenic as the one we saw earlier today.
That night we had a small farewell celebration for our cook and driver, as this was the last night that they would be with us. The hyena’s were providing some background ‘music’ again, but decided not to come and visit us that night.
