A weekend in Indianapolis

Last Friday at 4 I said the office goodbye and set sail to Indianapolis, to spend the weekend at an old colleagues place. Once (after some disagreements between me and the lady of the GPS) I hit the 74 just outside Cincinnati it was about 2 hours driving in a straight line, with just enough trucks overtaking other trucks to make you curse and stay awake. When I arrived at my destination, I parallel parked my car in a single perfect swift move and saw Jasper smoking outside so he could offer me a smoke-free living room to sleep in. It was just good to see a familiar face again!
Jasper has a very nice apartment in the city center of Indianapolis, which offers the advantage of going out, while not having to drive home. So we went out for diner to a sushi/cigar bar. To me it seemed a bit of an unorthodox combination, but the food there was absolutely fabulous, despite the fact that they had stretched the definition of sushi a bit. In addition to great food they also offered cocktails, so I started out with a pineapple juice based cocktail, which was great as well, and since somebody advised me not to long ago to drink pineapple juice, I decided to order two more.
After dinner we went off to a bar, where we met up with some other people. One of the girls offered us a shot that she thought was great and we should try. Basically, it tasted like an orange-flavored vitamin C tablet dissolved in vodka, making me feel healthier than ever. By about 2.30 we walked back again and by the time we arrived at Japers apartment we were engaged in a heated discussion about the Amish, God and the truth. By the time the clock hit 4.30 we decided that our opinions were too different and that two more hours of discussion would not bring us closer, so then it made more sense to go to sleep.
Around 2 the following afternoon, we came to a different conclusion, namely that we are not 25 anymore and this was painful on multiple levels. However after a decent breakfast of bacon and eggs, we stepped outside in the cold again, to take a walk around town and do a little sightseeing (just to make sure that drinking and headaches would not be my only memory of Indianapolis). Later that evening at the movie theatre we had traditional American dinner with pizza and nacho’s and for desert we had M&M’s and chocolate coated raisins. We flushed it down with some coke. Jasper had emptied his cup somewhere half way through the movie, but I think I barely managed to drink half of my small cup. We went to see ‘The King’s Speech’, which I can really recommend.
When we arrived back home we decided to go back to the pub for one more drink to kick the habit. One more may have become a bit more, more, but we did learn from the day before so with a lot less alcohol the old people went to sleep around 2 that evening.
Sunday morning after breakfast, I headed back home. After doing the groceries, it’s now time for some laundry and then I think I will retire early tonight. After all the drinks, food and sleep deprivation of last weekend I think a got a ‘balance week’ in front of me instead of a ‘balance day’, but it was sooo worth it.
